Recent Assignment
September 21, 2020My most recent assignment was to make atmospheric images of ace classical trumpeter, Jo Harris of Bella Tromba playing on Vanlaar handmade trumpets, as she laid down a recording of a special project in an old church famous for its incredible acoustics. I will be doing more work with Jo later this year.
I love working with musicians. Jo was very specific about what she hoped to achieve and how she wanted to use them in her project which fit perfectly with the way I like to work.
I first worked with musicians back in 1998 when I photographed at Wexford Festival Opera in Ireland. I had total access to all areas in the weeks running up to opening night. I used the work from this project to secure a place on the Documentary Photography and Photojournalism Program at the International Center of Photography School in New York City.
I look forward to working with more musicians and actors in 2021 if and when the covid emergency eases up.
I used Fujifilm X100 series cameras here which are silent and excellent in low light along with the lens converters so working in equivalent 28, 35 and 50mm focal lengths, a traditional documentary set up.
